Becoming a Relationship Therapist

The relationships we form and nurture are at the center of our lives. I believe the quality of our relationships can affect the quality of our lives. However, relationships can be difficult to manage at times. Therapy can be a transformative space for people to explore and manage the relationships in their lives, including the one with themselves. I became a therapist because I believe that with a safe and comforting environment, therapy can help us interact in healthier and more compassionate ways.

I know relationships can feel daunting at times when we feel we don’t have the right tools to manage them. I am passionate about helping clients attain the tools that will help them connect better with themselves and those around them. I feel incredibly privileged to help clients cultivate more fulfilling, joyful and nurturing relationships - which in turn helps them lead happier and healthier lives.

Counseling Philosophy

I strive to provide a warm and compassionate space where my clients are able to explore and express their feelings and experiences without judgment. I center cultural competency in my work, meaning that I prioritize the understanding of a client’s background, ethnicity, and belief system to ensure that clients feel able to show up authentically and honestly in sessions.

I aim to work collaboratively with my clients towards their goals, and offer a caring and objective perspective that helps clients explore conscious and subconscious experiences, beliefs, and feelings that help empower them towards change they wish to see. I believe that forming a strong and trusting relationship with my clients is key to making our work together meaningful and effective.

My Counseling Style and Strengths

My counseling style is nonjudgmental, compassionate, and multicultural. I approach therapy with a psychodynamic approach to help clients explore and discover their unconscious mind and guide them in gaining better insights into their patterns of thought and behavior to become more empowered in their lives and choices.

Working with a multicultural perspective, I believe that every client is worthy of compassionate and unbiased treatment. Every person’s culture, background and roots is formative to who they are and how they show up in therapy. I work to provide a safe and trusting environment so that my clients are able to foster growth and change.

Professional Counseling Background

I worked for many years as a student affairs professional, working with adults at the university level. I still have a passion for working with adults and helping them learn to manage the relationships and responsibilities in their lives. In my counseling career, I have worked with children as a school based therapist. I have experience working with Latinx populations and providing therapy in Spanish, and assisting children and families navigate social and family systems. I also provided telehealth therapy for a diverse population helping adults with varying issues from obsessive compulsive disorder, anxiety, grief, relationship management, and other emotional and mental stressors.
